Factors in the Aging Face

Hello again! Well, the cleaning continues at Dr. Takhar's Cosmetic Clinic. It has been never-ending reorganizing and so forth. You know those days where you empty desk drawers full of random elastic bands, scraps of paper, paper clips and swear that it will never get so out of hand again??? :)
In the midst of all this cleaning we came across an information sheet I wrote a year or so ago on the factors of aging and a nice write-up about the five products for perfect skin. I figured, why not share them here?

Factors in the Aging Face

The aging face, regardless of its place in chronological years is made up of five factors that ultimately affect its appearance over time. These factors are:
Intrinsic Aging
Sleep Lines
Gravity
Expression Lines
Photoaging
Intrinsic aging is loss of both dermal and subcutaneous tissue, which manifests in the nasolabial folds (lines from nostrils to corner of the lips) and mandibular line (jawline). The arrival of these lines and folds can make someone who feels youthful and young appear gaunt, tired and lacking the plumpness in the cheeks and face that usually signifies youth. For improvement in these areas, fillers such as Selphyl and Juvederm can be used with significant results.
Sleep Lines are hard to avoid as sleep is not something that we can do without! As a young adults sleep lines disappear shortly after we rise. For men, sleep lines generally appear on the forehead and upon the cheeks for women. Aside from training yourself to sleep on your back, there are some techniques for removing these lines, as well. These lines can sometimes be filled with injectable collagen materials such as Juvederm or Selphyl for temporary relief of the problem. The lines in question would need to be assessed by Dr. Takhar. In some cases, laser rejuvenation treatments such as the Profractional Laser can be appropriate for smoothing down the furrows. However, we are pleased to introduce a method for preventing these lines that doesn't require sleeping in awkward positions or having injectables. The Envy Pillow is a pillow designed by nurses and approved by chiropractors. It supports the face in such a manner that these lines can be avoided entirely. And it is good for your health!
Check back soon for information on how gravity, expression lines and photoaging affects the aging process!

New Year, New Clinic, New Goals!

It has been some time since I last posted. My apologies, things have been beyond busy around here! We finally had some quiet time this week as Dr. Takhar took a well-deserved vacation in Montreal with her two lovely children. We are super excited to have her back tomorrow for a very, very busy day of appointments!
All the girls here have shared their New Year's resolutions, and it seems unanimous that weight loss is the goal! In case you didn't know, we run an amazing weight loss program here at the clinic called Weightloss MD. It is a medically supervised weight loss program that guarantees you will lose up to 20lbs a month! It isn't difficult, and it allows you to eat all regular, every day foods - and plenty of it! We are having an open house next Wednesday, January 11th between 4 and 7pm to unveil the newly revamped Weightloss MD and we hope to see many of you in attendance! Dr. Takhar, Natalie, Barinda and the girls at the pharmacy have all joined the program and there is even a BBM chat group to join if you have a blackberry. The 24/7 support makes a huge difference, and although I am not on the diet (I am vegetarian/vegan, and it isn't designed for vegetarians), I have really been enjoying the ongoing, open conversation about weight loss, healthy tips and tricks and it is just plain nice to have that extra support! All are welcome to join!
